The Lantern of the Lake

In a quiet village surrounded by misty hills, there was a lake that shimmered like glass under the moonlight. Every evening, the villagers would gather by its edge to watch the reflection of the stars dance upon the water. Among them lived a young girl named Elara, known for her curiosity and gentle heart.

Elara loved stories. Her grandmother often told her that the lake held a secret — a lantern that could grant one true wish to anyone pure of heart. Many had searched for it, but none had ever found it. Still, Elara believed the story was more than a legend.

One night, when the moon was full and the air was still, Elara decided to find the lantern. She carried a small wooden boat, a candle, and her grandmother’s old compass. As she rowed into the center of the lake, the water glowed faintly, as if guiding her way. The stars above seemed to whisper, and the wind carried a soft melody.

Suddenly, the candle flickered, and a golden light rose from beneath the surface. It was the lantern — delicate, bright, and floating upward like a dream. Elara reached out, and as her fingers touched the light, she heard a voice inside her heart.
